Day 22 - Fiesta

We had a tiny fiesta today! Well..kind of at least..more like a celebratory picnic for completing the expedition and the reports and everything it entails.  So the DSA students woke up early and we headed to the Martinez...which I probably have already said, but is our big grocery store here...for some chips and pretzels and snacky foods, Tivoli for sandwiches and then to Delice de France for some pastries for dessert.  Once we got everything, we met up with all of the volunteers and UNGE people and we were off to Moka.

We got there in about an hour and a half and once there, Braiden, the wildlife center director...we will be staying at the wildlife that is owned by BBPP in February to conduct our research...let us look around and go into the research center.  Then we ate our food and went on a little walk through town.  It is tiny, but cute! They have just built this new church that is really pretty and everyone is really nice.  It also is a lot cooler weather since it is at a much higher elevation, so I liked that! It also rained today, so that cooled us off a bit as well.

On the way back to MEGI, Drew told the driver to take us a different way than how we came.  This time we drove through several little villages, but the one town we drove through is called Sampaka, which came from this old American Sam Parker who used to live there.  After awhile, we then came to Airport road, one of the major highways in Bioko and we passed the Complejo Deportivo de Malabo...this huge sports complex with turf fields, basketball courts, an olympic size pool, track, it has it all...where the African Cup of Nations was held last year. Pretty cool!  Actually EG has the best women's soccer team in Africa...little fun fact of the day.

Well, now I must start finishing my new research proposal!

Hasta luego,
Lindsey
