Day 73 - Almuerzo español

When we went to Carmen's, she was already cooking with Rosario, her cook.  We helped as much as we could, but it is hard to cook when the people only speak Spanish and so we kind of just stayed out of the way.  We did peel some potatoes and cut up some onions though...and provide entertainment with our attempts of asking questions in Spanish.

We had Carmen's tortilla de patatas (omelette with potatoes), lentils, tomatoes with olive oil and garlic, asparagus, bread, plantains and the cookies Sarah and I made...it was so delicious! And then we watched some episodes of the Big Bang Theory in Spanish.  It actually does help a lot to watch or listen to things in a different language when you are trying to learn it!

Carmen and her family are so sweet, I am going to miss them.  Her daughter kept saying how she loved the cookies...we made no bake chocolate and peanut butter cookies...the only thing we knew they didn't have here.  Plus they are fairly easy to make!  I really appreciate how kind she has been to us beyond her teaching.

After that, Dr. Maas picked us up and we headed to Marathon, Punta Europa for a tour.  It was really interesting because I have never been to an oil compound and seen where the actual gases and crude are kept and manipulated.  Let alone an oil compound where it covered by a great view of the ocean on three sides!  Unfortunately, quiz night got cancelled, but we still went to the club house and played some pool.

Cooking at Carmen's!

Plantains.

Carmen and Carmin making a tortilla! Yes, her daughter has the same name.

Hasta luego,
