Day 31 - Chester, PA

For each class we take here, we have an UNGE partner.  Well, except for Spanish since they don't take that class! But for our environment and society class my partner is Prospero and we have four different papers to write.  So this morning he came over to the student house and we started reading the material for our first paper.  Our assignment is about environmental racism and it is based out of Chester, PA.  I had heard about there being a lot of waste facilities in that area, but never really went into more depth than that in researching it....wow...it is terrible all of the pollutants that are being leaked out into Chester! And to think that that is so close to home.  Scary actually that the government allows that much toxic waste to be handled in one area...especially since it is predominantly minorities living there.

Writing the paper was cool...very interesting topic, but it was a bit of a struggle since Prospero isn't fluent in English and I'm not fluent in Spanish.  He left to go to the radio show, but I didn't go with today because I wanted to finish up the assignment and send it off to out prof.

We only had one class today...woo! Just Econ...but we have 4 hours of Environmental Science tomorrow...that will suck.

We went to Bantu for dinner after class.  It's David's favorite chinese restaurant here and it was surprisingly nice inside and delicious! But I'm not sure why I said surprisingly because there are so many Chinese people who live here.  Anyways, this weekend we have three field trips planned...to a cocoa plantation, the little village Ruiche and to Arena Blanca...the only natural white sand beach on the island!

Hasta luego,
Lindsey
